Agony: The Soundtrack

A lot of my ideation is rooted in music. This playlist includes mood music I used for inspiration while developing the themes, shaping the characters, and writing the scenes. However, it also includes tracks I’d envision using where the book ever to be adapted for the screen.

Tracks like “I’m Afraid of Americans” by Bowie and Nine Inch Nails and “Something in the Way She Moves” by James Taylor speed to the cynicism and sentimentality that shaped the book’s tone. However, tracks like “Monster Jerk” by Don Hinson & the Rigamorticians and “Long Legged Larry” I envision using on screen to balance tension and create levity. Several songs on the playlist belong to the novelty Halloween genre and are chosen for the way they blend the comfort of familiarity with a humorous representation of monsters and death.
