Legit is the story of a young DACA-student in a world where superheroes only protect the rich and powerful. After repeated acts of violence against her community, the main character joins a local group trying to put a stop to these attacks. But when the main character runs afoul of the law and is labeled a terrorist, she has to balance being a mother to a young child and rebelling against the power structure in a world where any violation of the law would reject her protected DACA-status resulting in her deportation.
The book was illustrated by Renzo Rodriguez, a truly brilliant artist and tremendous gracious partner. Above are some of his character sketches we did at the start of developing the pitch, before beginning the first issue. Legit sought to tell a very-grounded story, where superhero-actions have demonstrable consequences for poorer neighborhoods. As a product, many of these images show characters in more practical clothing.
Ultimately, the process of submitting the pitch was less reinforcing than finding a new distraction. Coupled with a sense of imposter syndrome, this has been a common way my ADHD has caused me to walk away from my goals.
